Interesting article. There was a moment early in the pandemic in the UK when there was a public mood that supported the idea of scaling back and focusing on what genuinely mattered. Sadly now the clarions of consumerism are back at full volume with the subtext that the economy needs you to spend and that spending is a vital part of what is normal. The main counter-force is rising costs; people are skipping meals to cover fuel bills. I am reminded of Laszlo's hierarchy of needs. We need to understand how little we truly need and that it includes each other.
