Shrewd stuff. I have been reading a lot of the crime writer Ann Cleaves and she unavoidably uses a lot of dialogue to develop plot (as you do in a whodunnit), but interestingly she uses the motif of "telling tales" as a metaphor for detection. People tell the detective tales and they are read. That kind of multi-layering awes me.
